How can I tell if I need a new mattress?
Trust your body! If you're waking up to little aches and pains (some that might last all day), it's generally a good indicator that your body isn't getting the proper rest and support that it needs throughout the night.
How long should my bedding last?
The Better Sleep Council advises consumers to buy the highest quality bedding they can afford, then replace old bedding every 8-10 years. After this many years, even the best bedding may no longer provide the best comfort and support.
Can I compare my old bedding to bedding available today?
No, the design and manufacturing of bedding has changed dramatically--even over the last 10 years! Innerspring technology has improved, new upholstery materials are being used every day and comfort choices have been expanded to give consumers a greater selection! Today's foundations offer more durability, from the steelspans to the torsion modules that are built into most Sealy Posturepedic® foundations.
How do I compare today's bedding?
Compare by the "comfort feel and support" of the bedding. Find one that you like, then see what levels of comfort and support you can get for the same amount of money in another store. Don't forget to compare store services and delivery as well! We encourage you to compare brands also. There is a reason Sealy is the industry leader -- we strive to be innovators and set the standard. Only Sealy Posturepedic® Sleep Systems contain the patented Sense & Respond Support System® with Sensory Arm™ feature that responds with increasing support as body weight is applied. Also exclusive to Sealy Posturepedic® is the "domed" SteelSpan® II Foundation and PostureSteel™ Foundation, for stronger-than-all-wood support and durability. Shop reputable stores that offer you the services you expect as well as competitive pricing
Shop stores that offer you a complete product selection. Value is when you like what you get for what you've paid. (Low quality bedding at cheap prices is not value.)
How do I know a mattress is made of all new materials?
Be sure to check the label! All Sealy mattresses are made of the finest quality, new materials. They are never reconditioned or recovered. Mattresses returned to retail stores by dissatisfied customers are sent back to the manufacturers. In many states it is illegal for mattresses to be resold by the retailer.
What are the dimensions of traditional bedding?
King: 76"x80"
Queen: 60"x80"
Full: 53"x75"
Twin: 38"x75"
Crib: 28"x52"

Traditional size mattresses are not big enough for me. Does Sealy make non-traditional and custom sizes?
Yes! Sealy realizes people come in all different sizes. Contact your local retailer for the following non-traditional mattress sizes:

72" x 84" California King
53" x 80" Full X-Long
38" x 80" Twin X-Long
Also consult your local Sealy dealers for custom-made bedding.

Should I replace my foundation when purchasing a new mattress?
A good foundation is as important as a good mattress! It acts much like a large shock absorber, taking a lot of the nightly wear and tear. And it contributes to your comfort and support. Don't put a new mattress on an old foundation. When you select the mattress, purchase its companion foundation--the two are designed to work best together. Sealy engineers invented "foundation support" in the 1970's, which sets the standard for today's bedding.
How much should I spend on a new sleep set?
You spend more time on your bed than on any other piece of furniture in your home, and the best assurance of good performance is to buy the highest quality sleep set you can afford!
What kind of support/frame is necessary for bedding today?
Use a sturdy bed frame! If your mattress is a queen or king set, make sure that your frame has the extra center support needed to prevent bowing and sagging. Sealy's recommendation for frame usage is displayed on every Sealy Warranty Card.
How do I shop for a mattress?
Wear comfortable clothes and shoes that you can easily remove for lying down. Take your time!! You can't judge support and comfort by sitting on an edge or lying down for just a few seconds. Lie on the bed the way that you sleep, and if you sleep with a partner, take them with you to decide if you'll be fighting for space. Don't be shy! Shop at a store that you know and trust--and read as much information about the bed available. Remember, buy the best bed that you can afford--you can always find "bargain bedding", but it's no bargain if you can't get a good night's sleep!
What type of mattress should I buy for my child?
Children's bodies aren't just always moving, they're always changing, and through all of those changes, their growing backs need support. That's why we created Sealy Kids. Designed specifically for children, Sealy Kids beds combine the comfort that kids want with the support that their developing backs need.
What should I do with my old bedding?
Most bedding retail stores include disposal of old bedding as a value-added store service -- ask about this type of service before you purchase!
Can my children use my old mattress?
Children's backs are constantly growing and changing. That's why Sealy developed Sealy Kids. With parents and kids in mind, these beds are designed with the latest technologies and kid-friendly features like Scotchgard® fabric protectant and Healthguard™ antimicrobial foam. And each bed is covered in colorful, fun fabric that children love.
Does a mattress need to be hard in order to be good for me?
No! With today's technology, the support that your body needs comes from the quality and design of the innerspring coil unit and foundation. One manufacturer's "Firm" may actually feel much harder than another's "Extra Firm"! Don't be fooled by the labels manufacturers put on their mattresses. A sleep set that provides correct support is better than a hard mattress. Sealy Posturepedic offers correct support regardless of comfort level or price.
How do I make sure I get adequate support in a sleep system?
A good mattress and foundation will gently support your body at all points and keep your spine in the same shape as a person with good standing posture. Key mattress features to look for are variable response coils and steel slats in the foundation. Sealy Posturepedic® Sleep Systems contain the patented Sense & Respond Support System® with Sensory Arm™ feature that responds with increasing support as body weight is applied. Essential to lasting support is a good foundation. Exclusive "domed" SteelSpan® II Foundation and PostureSteel™ Foundation are stronger-than-all-wood for support and durability.
How do I carry or move my mattress?
Carry your Sealy mattress flat on its side. It's easier to handle and less likely to get damaged. Don't carry your mattress using the handles. Use handles only to position your mattress on its foundation. Don't bend your mattress under any circumstances.* Such treatment may damage the innerspring unit. Flex rather than bend the mattress when going through doorways, and don't bend the corners when putting on fitted sheets. *Restriction does not apply to Sealy Posturepedic® king-size mattresses, which are designed to bend at specific hinging points.
I am interested in a Queen or King size bed, but the access to my bedroom is limited. How can I get a large bed through tight quarters?
King size foundations come in two pieces for easier access through narrow halls. Sealy also offers a Split Queen foundation that comes in two pieces. Ask your local retailer to order these special sizes.
How do I care for my mattress?
Keep your Sealy mattress clean. We suggest using a mattress pad, especially if children use the bed. Don't allow your mattress to get wet. Protect it from water or other liquids. Don't use dry cleaning fluid of any type on your mattress. These chemicals could damage some of the comfort and upholstery materials.
How do I maintain consistent comfort feel throughout the life of my bedding?
The consistent rotation of your Sealy bedding is the single, most important thing you can do to ensure the comfortable lifetime of your bedding. For instructions on how to properly rotate your bedding, please refer to answer #21 of this FAQ list.
How do I avoid body impressions in my mattress?
Body indentations are a normal occurrence in your new mattress and indicate that the upholstery layers are conforming to your body's individual contours. To help minimize body impressions, please turn your mattress every two weeks in the first three months; then, once every two months thereafter.
How do I clean my mattress?
Keeping your Sealy bedding clean is simple with the use of a protective mattress pad, especially if children use the bed. Vacuuming is the only recommended cleaning method. If you must clean a stain, use mild soap with cold water and apply lightly! Don't ever soak a mattress or foundation, and don't use dry cleaning fluid of any type on your mattress--these chemicals could damage some of the comfort and upholstery materials.
Why are there so many different quilting designs?
The quilting design on a Sealy mattress cover helps determine the firmness or plushness of the sleep surface. If a quilting design is small and close, the bed will tend to feel firmer; if the design is large and spread out, the bed will usually feel more plush. Remember - when you purchase a Sealy Posturepedic sleep set, you get the correct support regardless of comfort level or price.
Why are some of today's beds so thick? My sheets don't fit!
Today's mattresses are manufactured with much more padding upholstery and comfort layers than in days gone by! Many consumers prefer the plush and ultra-plush comfort that these thick mattresses provide. You can find deep-pocketed sheets in almost any retail store today--along with any sheet set that contains a 200 thread count.
Should I be concerned about bedding height?
It depends on the design of your bed frame and your personal preference! For consumers who don't want the extra height that comes with today's bedding, Sealy offers a "Low Profile Foundation," cutting the height of the foundation by up to 3 full inches! A low-rise bed frame can also reduce the overall height of your mattress surface. In addition, most stores also offer "low profile frames," which also reduce overall height.
Who should I call with a warranty concern? Can I submit warranty claims on-line?
Please contact the retail store where you made your purchase -- they'll be glad to help you! However, if the retail store has closed, or if you have moved, please write a letter to the address printed on the law label of your bedding. Include your name and address, along with copies of your sales receipt and bedding law label, and a daytime and evening phone number so we can contact you for service. Don't worry -- once you own your bed, you are allowed to remove the law label in order to copy it.

All warranty claims must be handled in person or by letter directly with the retail store where you purchased your sleep set. Please refer to the Sealy Warranty Card for details.
